None of you are following the "Drinking Man's diet."

Moderation is missing in all your alcoholic adventures.

When you drink eat nothing. 3 drinks in aft and 3 drinks at night. Drink first then eat. When you eat again drink nothing.'

After eating 15-30 mins have a warm cup of green tea. Also have Omega 3 fish oils and perspire in excersie...run like wild animals...short burst then walk...no threadmill or long distances. It weakens the heart muscles.

Listen to the AMA and those gurus from Med school and you get problems.

Robert CAmeron was 93 and has followed his drinking mans diet from 1964...PROOF..he's alive and the medical guys that criticized him are DEAD.

NOw in 2009 he is probably 98 ( 93 in 2004).

Alcholo in moderation..you guys are completly missing it.

Sctoch...1 inch per drink with soda or water.....

My father in law was in the army from the age of 18-50. He is now 80.

From the age of 18 he had 3 drinks in the MESS and then ate...this for lunch. Then in for dinner 3 drinks and then ate.

So he had 6 drinks a day. He is 80 and still does it. He stopped running after age 52. He has a belly, because he eats carbs.

But he told me the weights, running, being in the SUN all DAY ( without sunscreen) for 34 years conditioned his body to handle itself for another 34 years...52 +34=86.

He loves the sun and walks for the last 25 years...bursts of fast walking then a trot....bursts again for longer then a trot...walk....All for 20 minutes a day.

Point is listen to the medical establishment and die.

Listen to REAL LIVING SOURCES..A LA ROBERT CAMERON AND LIVE.

MODERATION IN ALCOHOL...is what YOU and most people miss following this diet. DISICPLINE.

Cameron was in the Air force when he got this diet from a guy in the Air force who was using it....1962/63 the Air force even in Canada was using it.

So bring on the Scotch, or what pleases you...each peg in moderation-if you do eat its crackers of pate and when you do have your main course...NO DRINKING, alchohol or water..nothing.

Good luck

Hi Lisa,

The Bacardi probably has something to do with it - I have never been able to lose weight when drinking - I can maintain, but not lose.

The 'trace ketosis' sounds like the hidden carb issue - you might be eating something that has carbs that you don't know about. One friend didn't realize her 'non-dairy creamer' had like 20 grams of carbs in each serving - and wondered why it wasn't working.

I just finished my second week of Atkins and much to my dismay I have lost nothing and cannot seem to move past the "trace" phase of ketosis. I did consume a lot of bacardi with diet coke on my 8th day.(hey it's football season!) Other than the alcohol I have not cheated once. I guess i will plunge forward another two weeks to see if anything falls off.....does anyone know of any reasons why Atkins can fail, other than the people themselves failing?

From my own personal experience I believe its the alcohol causing your stall in weight loss.

A couple of years ago I successfully lost 80 pounds on the Atkins diet. I did the usual power walks and going to the gym to help keep me fit and to aid my weight loss which I believe it did. More importantly I had also been alcohol free for that time aswell!
Unfortunately I came off the Atkins diet for about 4 months and gained about 20 pounds. I decided to get back onto the low carb life style around 5 months ago, however the only difference now was that I was consuming approx 1-2 litres of Bacardi per week. Yes, I know! LOL

I still worked out just the same as before BUT the scales YO YO'd all over the place. + or - 5 to 8 pounds all the time. In effect averaging at my start weight perhaps even gaining 1 -2 pounds over the 5 month period.

I've now come to the conclusion that alcohol was and will prevent me from loosing any weight whatsoever on the Atkins - for me anyways. As of today I have given up the booze. Its really hard and I really did enjoy it, however I enjoyed being slim more ;)

All the best.

I've noticed that when I binge bad on weekends. Lots of Jack Daniels and diet ginger ale, so much that I fear getting on my Ironman scale, which measures everything, Monday after work. My numbers are usually much better. Not always weight loss, but fat percentage always, metabolic age and sometimes water. The problem is as the week goes on and I'm back to eating completely low-carb and just my one drink (read double or triple) a night the numbers go "backwards" for a day or two and then start to get better again.

I'm just guessing here but either the scale doesn't read something do with the alcohol correctly or maybe the body is fighting to retain water or something. I've also noticed in the winter when I'm more dehydrated the amount of muscle reported is much less then when I'm fully hydrated. I would guess that the muscles are then fully hydrated and thus weigh more.

Sometimes this happens also when I ride 30 miles or so and then let myself eat carbs afterwards. Some studies show that immediately during and after intense workouts they will not raise insulin but go straight to refueling the glycogen used up that your body would normally need to replace through gluconeogenesis and thus can use the protein and fat to build/repair the muscles. I'm just sort of playing with this and seems to work.

Hopefully alcohol isn't the cause of your stall. I know that would suck. I've been trying to not have my week night drinks every night. I gained back 20 pounds over the holidays and various trips since. Now I need to get back on track and have about 2 months before my wedding to eat clean. Actually, did fairly well last week while skiing in Steamboat except for one day traveling.

Good luck, recently started reading your site.
