No Advertising

UPDATE 02/19/12

I host this blog on WordPress.com. I am very happy with the WordPress folks – they provide this wonderful platform that anyone can use to publish their thoughts for free. Recently, they have added advertisements to this blog. I’m OK with this. If they can remain in business and continue to provide this platform by putting ads on my site, more power to them.

Please note, however: I don’t pick these ads, and I don’t make money off these ads. They have nothing to do with me.

This might confuse some folks who come along and think that *I* have something to do with these ads, and I get an email just about every day now from different people who ask me if I would:

  1. Let them write a guest post  in exchange for a link or 2 they’ll embed in the post promoting their product or service
  2. Place a link to their site on LowCarbConfidential.com and in exchange they’ll place a link to here on theirs.
  3. Take a sample of their product and do a review on it
While I think it’s flattering that they find my blog a place worthy of their product or service, I have to politely decline for the following reasons:
  1. As this site is hosted on WordPress.com, I can’t personally accept advertising as part of the terms and conditions.
  2. If I accepted physical items, it might be a conflict of interest – giving me an item for free might subconsciously motivate me to write nice things about it when I otherwise might not have.
  3. This blog isn’t about money or self-promotion…I mean, look at it. Erratic posting. Half-baked ideas. Sloppy research. It’s not the blog you’d bring home to Mom.

When I write about a product – I paid for it. Some cynics out there have thought otherwise, but any products mentioned here were paid for out of my own pocket.

I do have 1 exception to the rule – electronically delivered items like eBooks or MP3s.

It doesn’t cost them anything to send to me – and if it’s on a topic about weight loss and I find it interesting, I’ll give it a listen or a read. With this kind of item, due to the fact it costs nothing  to send me an electronic product, I don’t think that I am depriving the person of anything.

Nor do I feel beholden to them.

Honestly, people who do this – the few times I’ve agreed to it, have gotten very little out of it. As I said, I’m not trying to promote this blog, I post when I want, and don’t feel the need to post to cater to an audience.

I one time I wrote about a hypnosis mp3 I just thought was OK –  it got a brief mention, and I mentioned that it was given to me in the post.

I typically warn folks offering me stuff of this – the probability of me writing about their product is low.

I love hearing from folks, and have nothing against hearing from people promoting products. If you have a cool website or product having something to do with the subject of this website, or something else, please let me know – but I don’t do link exchanges, don’t accept money, and don’t accept free products unless they are a pdf or mp3 or something else electronically delivered.

And even in those cases, I can’t promise I’ll write about them or even look at them.

And if I did write about them – I would mention I got it for free.

Fair?
